Prague, December 2017

After an exciting, whilst also extremely tiring, overnight train ride from Krakow to Prague we were glad to get ourselves checked in to our beautiful apartment at the Old Royal Post for a relaxed morning preparing ourselves for a day of exploring in Prague. The apartment was in a great location only around a 5-minute walk to the Charles Bridge and on the castle and cathedral side of the Vltava river. The Lennon Peace wall is also very close to the apartment which although it is worth a view, unfortunately, it does appear to have been defaced over the years. It's also quite hard to see the wall over the selfie sticks!

The city of Prague is extremely picturesque with a new beautiful building every time you turn a new corner, making it a lovely place to walk around aimlessly for a day or two. It felt a lot busier than Krakow and although we were all excited to see the Christmas markets here, I don't actually think they compared to the ones in Poland that we had just spent hours exploring a few days ago. Prague has two main Christmas markets, one of which is in the Old Square and the other in the Wenceslas Square, but despite this, the actual stalls seemed a lot more touristy and tacky. Needless to say, I was glad I had treated myself to everything I fancied from the stalls in Krakow.

Despite the Christmas markets being a bit of a disappointment, I absolutely loved Prague itself and would love to visit again in the summer/autumn months to experience a different feel to the place. Food-wise, definitely treat yourself to a chimney cake and try and get yourself to Jo's restaurant, a favourite eatery of ours which offers delicious but affordable Czech and international food. The city is second to none for sightseeing including the astronomical clock, the dancing house, and the Charles Bridge. The views from the bridge and from walking around the city by the river are unmissable. My favourite day of exploring was when we walked up to the Castle and Cathedral which were both really impressive. The cathedrals stained glass windows were amazing and the (very uphill!) walk up to the castle area means you can see over the whole city.
